Get Involved

The work of Treasury of Country Australian History Inc (TOCAH) is built on people — their stories, their skills, and their willingness to help preserve Australia’s regional, rural and remote history.

There is no single way to be involved. Whether you have a story to share, time to offer, or skills to contribute, your involvement helps ensure these histories are not lost.

Share your story

Many of the most valuable records of country Australia exist in personal memories, family histories, and lived experience.

You can get involved by:

  • Sharing your own story or life experiences

  • Contributing family histories or community memories

  • Offering photographs, documents, or personal records

  • Helping ensure stories are recorded while they can still be told

Stories may be shared through interviews, written submissions, or curated material, always handled with care and respect.

Help record and research history

TOCAH welcomes people who are interested in assisting with:

  • Oral history interviews

  • Research into regional communities, industries, and events

  • Contextualising historical records and artefacts

  • Supporting the organisation of collections and material

This work helps turn individual stories into a broader, accessible historical record.

Contribute your skills

TOCAH’s work extends beyond recording stories. Members and supporters contribute skills in many areas, including:

  • Writing and editing

  • Archiving and cataloguing

  • Technology and digital platforms

  • Community engagement and outreach

  • Administration and organisational support

If you have skills you’d like to share, there is often a meaningful way to apply them.

Support as a member or advocate

Some people choose to be involved by supporting TOCAH’s work rather than participating directly.

Involvement on your terms

TOCAH recognises that people’s capacity to be involved changes over time. Participation can be ongoing or occasional, hands-on or behind the scenes.

What matters most is a shared respect for Australia’s country stories and a commitment to preserving them with care.
